Welcome Back!!

I am VERY excited to share our classroom website with you this year. For the past two years, I have not made any updates or blog posts. That is all about to change! Look around the website and check it out; It's a neat way to showcase all of the fun things we do in class! In order for your child to be featured on our site, I need you to fill out and return the internet/website permission slip that was included in your child's orange welcome folder.

I'm looking forward to a WONDERFUL year and cannot wait to begin posting and updating our classroom blog. I appreciate your willingness to let your child participate. Once I begin posting, the site will become private. Only parents with children participating in the blog will be able to access the site. You can add family members and friends to the list by emailing me their names once we get it up and running. More on that later! Again, thank you for sharing your child with me this year. First grade is such a FUN grade to teach and I look forward to getting to know both you and your child!

This summer I've made LOTS of changes. I've changed grades, schools and my last name! I decided my website needed a change, too. I've spent the summer scouring the internet looking for cute ideas to use in my 1st grade classroom and found Jenn, at Finally In First. Her site is incredible and her website design was DARLING. She and her husband were just starting out their new website design business, Dream Team Designs, and I knew that they could help me update my site and make it stand out. They are the best! I am beyond thrilled at how the final product turned out!! It was such an easy and fun process from start to finish. I highly reccomend Dream Team Designs as they are so easy to work with! You will not be disappointed.

Earth Day Play

Our Earth Day play is ready & available on DVD. I ended up having to do it this way vs. putting it online due to the fact that I have one child whose parents asked that they not be put on our website. I assumed that editing would take care of that issue and I'd be able to post the video, but not so much. :( I appreciate your patience and if you'd like a copy of the play, just shoot me an email and I'll gladly send you one! Again, I apologize for the inconvenience and hope the end result will be well worth the wait.

Library Field Trip

We had a wonderful time at the Glenpool Public Library! The kids enjoyed listening to a story, getting to check out books and hearing all about the summer reading program. A big thanks to all of the parents and grandparents who joined us on our day out of the classroom. We appreciate your willingness to come and spend part of your day with us. We had a lot of fun and have the pictures to prove it!

Teddy Bear Pajama Day!

We had a great time celebrating our class bear, Bandit, coming out of hibernation. Everyone brought a bear to school and wore their pajamas, too. We did LOTS of fun activities & games using our bears. I hope you enjoy the pictures!

Happy Valentine's Day???

It's almost April! Yikes! Again, bear with me as I catch up on the multitude of great pictures I have to share! We had a wonderful Valentine's Day party and since my kids LOVE to watch the "video/movies" vs. just looking at pictures of themeselves, this one is just for them!

Our Favorite Author!

Jan Brett is an AWESOME author and illustrator of the most gorgeous children's books around! We spend an entire month reading and learning from her stories. I have several posts about all of the fun things we do, using her stories as our inspiration.

Just last week, I was BEYOND thrilled to find out that my website is mentioned on HER website!! Check out the link below to see for yourself! How cool is that?!?!?

100 Days Smarter!

At the beginning of February, the ENTIRE Kindergarten group (all 9 classes) got together to celebrate the MUCH ANTICIPATED 100th day of school. In Kindergarten, 100 is a BIG number. When you add the fact that we mark, tally, and count each day, everyday, well, it is a BIG deal to FINALLY get to that 100th day!

For the special occasion the Kinder teachers did it up BIG. Each teacher hosted an activity in their room that focused on the number 100. The children got to rotate through 9 different rooms, participating in 9 different activities. The classes met outside in the hallway to kick off our 100th day and counted from 1-100. I've included the video of us counting as well as a few pictures of what the kids did in each room they visited.

Honestly we HAVE been busy doing neat things in our classroom, really. I have 226 pictures of February alone to prove it! My apologies for a picture less & post less bloggy break! Lots of updates are in the works! :)

Jan Brett Author Study

During the last half of January and the first half of February, our class is learning about Jan Brett; she is a children's author and illustrator who writes and illustrates the most amazing books. On Thursday we read one of her books, Annie And The Wild Animals. This story is about a little girl who loses her cat. Since the little girl lives in the woods, she sets out corn cakes in order to find a new pet to tame. The corn cakes attract lots of wild animals but none that Annie could tame as a pet. In the end, her cat comes home with 3 kittens as well. The kids loved the story and loved trying to guess the ending! After we read the story, we made our own corn cakes. They were a big hit and so easy to do! I hope you enjoy the pictures!

Student Store Grand Opening!

On Friday, our student store had its grand opening! It was a HUGE success. As a teacher there are some things you try and learn from experience not to do again. On the other hand, there are activities you try and the learning is above and beyond what you ever imagined! Our student store was just that activity!!! On Friday morning, the kids emptied their piggy banks and counted their money. After specials, we opened the store and began counting, spending, purchasing and even saving pennies for bigger purchases! I couldn't have been more proud of my class! I've included pictures from our grand opening. Next week we will be trading our pennies in for nickels and learning how to count by 5's. I know I speak for both the class and myself when I say WE CAN'T WAIT!! :)
